There are many different designations for the types of meetings and formats, including Topic, Discussion, Big Book Study, Step meetings and more. The specifics when provided are in the meeting details. One thing to be aware of is the potential confusion over the designation CLOSED and OPEN. Meetings that are designated as OPEN or CLOSED are referring to type of meeting. In Alcoholics Anonymous, meetings that are “OPEN” are open to anyone that has interest in attending, while “CLOSED” meetings are restricted to AA members only, and to be a member you only need have a desire to stop drinking.
